FOLDRite showcased in live JDF workflow

Through collaboration and efforts across a dedicated team of vendors including Adobe, FOLDRite, Avanti, Kodak, Xerox and Duplo, there was a “live” demonstration of JDF showing how industry standards can work together in a “Design to Finishing” workflow automation at the Graph Expo event October 26-29th 2008 in Chicago. Show attendees were be stepped through the process, from file creation to finishing, while learning about the process along the way. The unique demonstration began at the design desktop, by creating a brochure that was designed using Adobe InDesign CS3 with a FOLDRite™ folding template.

This illustrated how easily a designer could choose their folding style and create a “production-ready” template directly within Adobe InDesign. FOLDRite templates are mathematically adjusted for the folding process with fold marks in place and standardized naming conventions. The design layout, the folding information and JDF “intent” stayed with the PDF of the layout and passed through the workflow to Avanti’s Management Information System.

The MIS system conveyed the job description (JDF) and job messaging (JMF) to illustrate the process of automation for web to print and communicated to the Kodak Creo RIP to drive the Xerox Docucolor® 8000AP Digital Press.

The JDF data from the folding template was sent from the Avanti MIS system to the Duplo DC-645 Cutter, Slitter, Creaser to automatically fold and finish the job.
